Anyone at Fort Polk that can tell me what to expect..PCSing there in Nov and need information about housing (on/off post) schools etc. Any info is appreciated..thanks in advance. Moving from Ft Hood so I know its much smaller than here.

Fort polk la question is will them provide temp housing for us while we wait for a home or are we expected to pay for temp lodging? This is our first pcs together.

Fort Polk Louisiana, Branch is Army and the base is located on a very small town where there?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s not much to do around. There are not famous sit down chain restaurants unless you drive 1+ hours, same with the mall. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s all about making the best out of it and just focusing on the face that you are with your husband and you make a home wherever they send you, it doesnt matter if it is in the middle of nowhere.

Oh the restaurants! Go to the Thai Place located in Leesville, Hannah, The Ranch (it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s opened on the week til 2:30pm, try the BBQ brisket so delicious), WAgon Master and there?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s this place Cecils in Deridder (10-20 minutes from post). There are no chain restaurants, just locals, bc it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s such a small town they dont want ?¢‚Ǩ?ìbig?¢‚Ǩ¬ù resturants to come over and they can shut down?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ we love to go out, sit and have dinner with our friends because theres not much to do around hehehe, but they have good food.

as in entertainment theres a little movie theather and a water place, plus the parks?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ if you like bars there are plenty around too for grown ups.

Fort Polk is a smaller post than most. We have been here for 4 years, but are due to PCS to Ft. Sill in August. They recently built a new PX and it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s great. They are building a Chili?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s restaurant on post and it should be opening late 2010. Most would complain that it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s out in the middle of nowhere and that you have to travel an hour to do anything fun, which is true, but honestly aren?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t most post the same way? I believe you just have to make the best of wherever you go.

Hey Lauren! I like your attitude :) We?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢re scheduled to PCS there next month and all I hear, for the most part, is all the negatives about the area. We were stationed in Fairbanks, AK and everyone told me that I would hate it because of its remote location and that duty station has been our favorite thus far. I completely agree that each post is all about how you make it. I do have a question for you, though?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ Are there any dog parks in the area?
